"My clothes still smell like you,
All the photographs say that we’re still young.
I pretend I’m not hurt,
I walk about the world like I’m havin’ fun.
"

Intro[]

Body Electric is a song that featured on the Born to Die: Paradise Edition. It was first debuted live, earlier than any other track found on the re release. A demo exists but sadly only in the hands of traders.

It was written by Grant and Rick Nowels and is 3 minutes 53 seconds long.

The song refers to the famous poem I Sing the Body Electric by Walt Whitman, whom she mentions in this poem. Lana has since tattooed his name on her forearm.

Along with Bel Air and Gods & Monsters, Body Electric is featured in her short film, Tropico.

Lyrics[]

Elvis is my daddy, Marilyn’s my mother,
Jesus is my bestest friend.
I don’t need nobody, ‘cause we got each other,
Or at least I pretend.

We get down every Friday night,
Dancin’ and grindin’ in the pale moonlight.
Grand ole opry, feelin’ alright,
Mary prays the rosary for my broken mind.

I sing the body electric,
I sing the body electric, baby.
I sing the body electric,
Sing the body electric,
Sing the body electric.
I’m on fire, baby, I’m on fire.

Whitman is my daddy, Monaco’s my mother,
Diamonds are my bestest friend.
Heaven is my baby, suicide’s her father,
Opulence is the end.

We get down every Friday night,
Dancin’ and grindin’ in the pale moonlight.
Grand ole opry, feelin’ alright,
Mary prays the rosary for my broken mind.

I sing the body electric,
I sing the body electric, baby.
I sing the body electric,
Sing the body electric,
Sing the body electric.
I’m on fire, baby, I’m on fire.

My clothes still smell like you,
All the photographs say that we’re still young.
I pretend I’m not hurt,
I walk about the world like I’m havin’ fun.
And I get crazy every Friday night,
I drop it like it’s hot in the pale moonlight.
And when I pray, I’m feelin’ alright,
She’s swayin’ softly, to her hearts delight.

I sing the body electric,
I sing the body electric, baby.
I sing the body electric,
Sing the body electric,
Sing the body electric.
I’m on fire, baby, I’m on fire.
